Global supply chain disruptions continue in 2022 with no end in sight. These challenges are hitting at all points, including raw material shortage, accelerating inflation, factory shutdowns, and shipping constraints just to name a few. Ethernet switch, and Wi-Fi, network equipment manufacturers are struggling to manage product delivery lead times extending beyond 52-weeks.
Tellabs is in this same fight. What we highly encourage is that we work together – customers and partners – to explore all choices, including Optical LAN options. Tellabs maybe in a better position with some existing inventory, shorter lead times, or an alternative design, to help get a critical project done. We recommend that our customers and partners contact us to discuss all possibilities.
Replace Traditional Switch – Now is a great time to consider using the Tellabs FlexSym® Optical Network Terminal 248 (ONT248) if a traditional 48-port Ethernet switch is not obtainable. The FlexSym ONT248 has long been accepted an economical one-to-one replacement of closet-based switches. All its same OLAN benefits can be gained by using the FlexSym ONT248 for new build projects too. It behooves you to call us to check on the inventory of the ONT248 for your next project, whether greenfield or brownfield.
Upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 – Like the traditional switch manufacturers, the Wi-Fi equipment companies are battling long delivery lead times too. We recently launched the Wi-Fi 6 Tellabs FlexAir™ solution. Tellabs FlexAir delivers enterprise wireless Access Points (AP) and cloud-based controller with intelligent management, best network performance and strict security. Even better yet, it occupies less space, uses less material and delivers operational efficiencies for the understaffed IT department. Be sure to contact us to inquire about possible APs in existing stock and check our APs delivery lead times.
Modernization with Optical LAN – Additionally, we urge our customers and partners to talk with their sales representatives about all Optical LAN product readiness. Tellabs has a good selection of OLTs and ONTs that can potentially be sourced. Each one of these products has variations in stock and shipping, so they are viable candidates for modernizing enterprise building and campus networks. Furthermore, it is well documented how an Optical LAN design can reduce construction materials. For example, the Guthrie Hospital case study estimated that OLAN eliminated 50 miles of CATx cabling from the hospital. Again, please reach-out to Tellabs to get up-to-date status concerning OLTs and ONTs availability.
The persistence of supply chain troubles seems to have no near term easy fix. Our operations team members continue to work diligently with suppliers to minimize disruption of our supply chain and fulfill orders in a timely manner. We ask that our partners and customers continue to work closely with their Tellabs account executives, as early in the sales cycle as possible, to assist in keeping your projects on track.
