It was good to see the positive press announcing Kanata-based supply-chain management software firm, Kinaxis, recent celebration of the grand-opening of their 160,000 square-foot global headquarters.
Davidson Violette is the integrator and installer credited with the successful design, deployment and management of the Passive Optical LAN at the Kinaxis HQ. The Optical LAN fiber-based design is ideal to streamline the enterprise network connectivity that helps Kinaxis inspire innovation, collaboration, and engagement amongst its 500 employees at their high-tech office.
Their Optical LAN system affords them some unique abilities that would not have been possible with a traditional LAN infrastructure. The installed OLAN data center equipment, called the Optical Line Terminal, has the built-in capacity to connect over 8,000 endpoints from a small footprint (Tellabs FlexSym Optical Line Terminal Six). It also has the ability to support Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), 10 gigabit PON (10G XGS-PON) and multi-gigabit Ethernet connectivity for 1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10G – even over the same fiber strand! The edge access devices are called Optical Network Terminals, and these ONTs are mounted in IT rooms, ceiling mounted zone boxes or flush mounted inside walls – Kinaxis took advantage of all the ONT’s flexible variations, including:
- Tellabs 140C Optical Network Terminal (ONT140C)
- Tellabs 140W Optical Network Terminal (ONT140W)
- Tellabs FlexSym Optical Network Terminal 202 (ONT202)
- Tellabs FlexSym® Optical Network Terminal 248 (ONT248)
It is the ONTs that supply Power over Ethernet (PoE) to the powered devices they network. For example, the Optical LAN powers and connects the Wireless Access Points for optimal user experience over Wi-Fi. Plus, the fiber-fed OLAN links IP cameras, AV switchers, video wall, door controllers, signage players, servers, security appliances and workspace applications for the hardworking employees.
We are very proud of the contributions Tellabs, Optical LAN and Davidson Violette have delivered to Kinaxis. We wish the Kinaxis team continued growth as they win new clients around the world.
