The U.S. Navy has selected Tellabs Passive Optical LAN, as well as Hewlett-Packard, VMware and Citrix to provide information technology systems and services for integration with the Navy Marine Corps Intranet as part of the Innovation Cell program.
The Navy launched the Innovation Cell program back in March of 2015 in an effort to streamline and speed the process of acquiring IT platforms and services within a 12-month timeframe.
Tellabs’ piece of this enterprise challenge is to expedite the upgrading of the Navy Marine Corps Intranet network architecture with Passive Optical LAN. The Navy’s new Innovation Cell for rapid IT acquisition was covered on Federal News Radio program hosted by Jared Serbu. On this Federal News Radio program at the 4:30 mark, you can hear Victor Gavin (Navy’s program executive officer) announce, “the government has determined that passive optical networking technology is the best solution here and it was determined that Tellabs had the best product in this area.”
