The Tellabs 1000 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP) is without a doubt the Swiss Army Knife of the broadband access industry. Today, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP continues to benefit from on-going R&D investments resulting in constant innovations and improvements. However, some tools, in its very deep toolbox, may not be as well-known as others.
For example, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP is a very economical 1/0 Digital Cross Connect, and D4 Channel Bank replacement.
In a typical network service provider 1/0 narrowband cross connect configuration, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP can accept DS1s with multiple Special Service DS0s, and groom them into other DS1s mapped to or transported directly to another CO. Case in point, one of our major North American network operator customers was able to collapse five (5) telco racks loaded with 25 channel banks of both D4 and 1/0 DCS systems into one (1) Tellabs 1000 MSAP system, utilizing one (1) telco rack. Basically, 200 circuits (e.g. DDS, E&M, ISDN, UVG, Special Services 2W/4W, FX, DID, ETO, PLAR) in 200 old plug-in cards were reconfigured into just 95 Tellabs 1000 plug-in cards. This new configuration saved the service provider energy, space and money.
